RadioX Gets Religion On Easter
by Rafer Guzmán
The Lord giveth alternative music, but now he
taketh away.
The non-profit, free-form music station known as RadioX, founded by Scott
Hartill
in August 2005, will switch to an all-religious format on Easter Sunday.
The three
frequencies which serve Selden, Ridge and Hauppauge, boasted the slogan "Radio
For The Rest Of Us" and drew an estimated audience of 50,000, according to
Hartill.
But he admits: "We just weren't able to bring in enough to pay for running the
operation.
Hartill says he struck a financial agreement with the Rev. Richard Anderson,
pastor
of Holding Out Hope Church in Middle Island. The station will now be known
by its
official call letters, WLIX. "I wanted to bring back community radio,"
Hartill says.
"OK, so it's not the punk rockers and the alternative crowd. But it still
serves a
purpose."
RadioX - airing at 94.7 FM, 94.9 FM and 104.5 FM - will continue to stream at
radiox.fm.
